Mandy Porras

I am an architect and artist; I was born in Venezuela but now I live in Puerto Rico. I has been passionate about architecture and the plastic arts since my childhood, I come from a family with a strong inclination and artistic talent.

In 2015 when I moved to PR, I began my artistic work motivated by forced exile and admiration for the masters of kineticism. During 2018 and 2019 I studied at the Puerto Rico Art League. My portfolio shows my works in murals, painting, sculpture, ceramics and mixed media.

My works are nourished by light and color, lines or surfaces that intersect or intertwine with curves and the energy produced by the active vibration of their contrasts. These are sequences of contrasting and superimposing color that obey a deliberate order: my purpose is to create optical illusions that actively integrate the viewer and make them participate in a moving work.

For my work I prefer the generous format so that the viewer can fully perceive and enjoy the effect of movement. Color and geometry, shape and rhythm that produce vibration and movement: these are the elements that I combine to give life to my kinetic proposal, inspired by the postulates of Maestro Carlos Cruz Diez.

Being abstract, my pieces try to reflect the turmoil and contrasts of life: sometimes violent, sometimes subtle, but always in motion. Those lines and colors tell us that nothing is static, they whisper to us that nothing is permanent, they persuade us that movement represents hope, change, life.
